Rentals Near Okemo

If you're planning a trip to Okemo Mountain, you're in for a treat. It's one of the best ski destinations on the East Coast — and a personal favorite of mine. I skied Okemo throughout college, and 20 years later, I'm still making memories on its trails. Whether you're hitting the slopes or visiting during the off-season, finding the right rental can make or break your trip. Here's a complete guide to staying near Okemo and what to consider.

Why Stay Near Okemo

Okemo Mountain Resort is located in Ludlow, Vermont — a charming town that offers more than just skiing. From scenic hikes to lakeside relaxation in the summer, it’s a year-round destination. The surrounding towns offer easy access to Okemo, plus close proximity to Killington, Woodstock, and other Green Mountain gems.

Best Nearby Towns to Stay

Ludlow Vermont

If you're looking to rent near Okemo, outside of finding a spot right on the mountain - a good spot to check out is Ludlow. Ludlow is a small ski town, that is home to Okemo. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby, and it's a quant New Engand town. In Ludlow you are about a half hour away from Killington, Woodstock - which are other prominent attractions nearby.

Plymouth Vermont

Plymouth is an excellent spot if you want to be close to Okemo and Ludlow (just a 15 minute drive), but also centrally located to Killington, Woodstock and more.  This is a great spot if you want to check out Okemo and Ludlow, but also want to spend time outside of Ludlow and explore Killington and Woodstock.  The Arched Chalet is located right in Plymouth, it's actually on a old ski resort, and comes with some amazing views of the Green Mountains. Outside of being close to Killington, Woodstock, Bridgewater, you're just short drive to Camp Plymouth State Park. Camp Plymouth State Park has swimming, paddle board rentals, fishing, etc.

Other Towns to Consider

  • Proctorsville – Just 5 miles from Ludlow, quieter but still close.
  • Cavendish – Great for a secluded getaway.
  • Chester – Around 20 minutes away, with boutique shops and cozy dining.

When to Visit

While winter is peak season thanks to skiing and snowboarding, don't sleep on summer and fall. Okemo Valley shines with lush green landscapes and fiery foliage. Camp Plymouth is perfect for summer water activities, and fall brings cooler hikes, harvest festivals, and unbeatable views.

Rentals Options

Once you decided on where to rent i.e. Okemo mountain, Ludlow, Plymouth or other spots, it's important to consider what type of rental. I'll break down a few options:

Home Rentals

Home rentals are my preferred choice, and is what The Arched Chalet is. The benefit of a home rental is you have the entire house for friends and families. Inns and hotels are good, but not when you have a group. Especially when you're out in nature in the Green Mountains, you want a home with a nice backyard and fire pit, to really take in the scenery.  Our chalet has a working fireplace, outdoor fire pit area, multiple decks and a spa overlooking the green mountains.

When you look at homes, just make sure it checks all of the boxes you're looking for.

Inns or Hotel Rooms

In my opinion, Inns or hotel rooms are good, if it's just two people. For example, a couples retreat and you just need a room. There are several motels and Inns within the area to explore.  Another plus is with an inn or hotel, there is guest staff to assist with any questions about the area, support with the room, etc. When you rent a home, you don't have someone on premise to help out.

VRBO

VRBO and other home rental sites are really good at finding a bunch of rentals, and give you an array of searchable options to your preference. However, VRBO does charge fees to the end user. So while the convenience is there, they will charge about 6% to 15% extra to book through VRBO. When you're looking at a nice rental that can be at least $500/night for multiple nights, that ads up pretty quickly.

AirBNB

Very similar to VRBO, AirBNB offers a great platform to find rentals based on whichever your preferences are, but they will charge you. The amount varies, but for AirBNB it can be around 14% for service fees. So while the platform is very helpful, you end up paying in the end.

Book Directly

Booking directly with the owner is generally preferred, as there a few direct and tangible benefits:

  • No platform service fees (saves renters 6–15%+)
  • Better communication with the property owner

  • Potential for discounts or added perks (since owners avoid platform fees too)

  • Often done through:

    • The property’s own website

    • Social media (e.g. Instagram, Facebook)

    • Email or phone communication after discovering the property

Through this website, The Arched Chalet offers direct booking. While we are still on AirBnB and VRBO, we give guests the option to book directly. We've had instances where they found us on VRBO but booked directly to save some extra cash. Eventually we will likely only offer a direct booking option.
