If you're looking for that perfect vacation rental, I'm going to give you a list of all things you should look for. These are items that will make your Vermont experience that much better. This is based on experience renting from other hosts and also upgrading our Chalet to include all of these, to maximize the guest experience. Let's dive into it!
Vermont is a beautiful state, absolutely gorgeous. When you decide on a rental, make sure that you're in close proximety to a few great destinations - to really maximize the experience. There are many rentals that are out in the woods in the middle of no where - and that can absolutely serve a great purpose to disconnect, but for those that want the balance of disconnecting but also have options to have different experiences, find a rental that is close proximety to a few destinations. One of the perks of The Arched Chalet and why we love it, is it's close to A LOT. Within a short drive you have access to:
What this means that whatever you're into, there are plenty of fun destinations for those who choose to explore! Whether you book for us, or another host - find a spot that has a bunch of fun activities nearby!

Vermont is such a pretty state. When you're looking for a property, ideally find one with views. Half of Vermont's charm is just taking in the Green Mountain scenery. When we found The Arched Chalet to buy, the views absolutely hooked us. As you can see from the picture below, you can see for miles upon miles at the untouched Green Mountains. It's quiet amazing. Our Chalet is actually halfway up an old ski run at a resort that closed it's doors a few years ago (I'm sure it's still for sale for any takers!).
Whether you book with us or another host, try and find a spot with those gorgeous mountain views.
The views from The Arched Chalet never get old
Vermont gets cold, whether it's crisp fall air or a single digit winter chill. When it gets cold, nothing soothes the soul better than cozying up in front of a real wood burning fire. Gas fireplaces are OK, but if you really want to feel the heat and experience a real fire, find a home with wood burning fireplaces or fire pits.
To add to that, also find a rental that supplies fire wood. Even better kiln dried firewood. The last thing you want to do is show up to see a fireplace, but not have adequate good.
Thankfully our chalet offers an outdoor solo stove and a wood burning fireplace with ample kiln dried fire wood.

Need I say more? After a long day skiing, few things beat a solid soak into a hot tub, overlooking the views of the Green Mountains. Not only do you want to find a rental with a hot tub, you want to make sure it's properly kept. I've been at a rental where the hot tub was not properly cleaned and it's such a drag. For any guests staying at our rental, you can be assured that the hot tub is drained and cleaned before each visitor by a pool maintenance company. Believe it, this is actually law in Vermont that hot tubs need to be drained and cleaned before new guest.
Unwinding after a day of exploring the Green Mountains.
You want to spend some of your stay outside, whether that's in the yard or on a deck. One of the main reasons for staying in Vermont is to enjoy the outdoors. The Arched Chalet has that covered as we have 3! decks and a decent sized back yard - all with great views.
No one wants to squeeze in a tiny rental. Everyone has their own personal space and that should be a key factor when looking for a rental. Our Chalet has a solid footprint, 3 floors, 3 bedrooms + a loft area, with two living areas. The kids go downstairs :) and the adults hand in the upstairs living area.
Having a generator at a rental is one of those things most people don't seek, but it's very important for those Vermont snow storms that can create large power outages. We invested in a full house generator that automatically goes on if power goes out. It doesn't go on frequently, but at least 2-3 times a year, it will be used. The reason is Vermont is very rural and the weather in the winter can get pretty significant. All it takes is some heavy snow for a tree to knock out a power line and create a power outage.
I hope this is helpful. Whether you stay with us (we hope you do!) or another rental, keep this list in mind. All of these elements will help you make the absolute most out of your Vermont stay.
