Killington Mountain Biking

If you're looking for some summer fun in the Green Mountains, I strongly suggest mountain biking at Killington. Whenever we're up visiting The Arched Chalet in the summer, mountain biking at Killington is always a top consideration.  Below is a picture of me and my son enjoying a great day on the mountin.  In this blog post, I'm going to break down what makes Killington mountain biking a fun activity for consideration. Even further, if you're planning a mountain bike adventure, we would welcome you to stay at The Arched Chalet.

Mountain Bike Trails for All Skill Levels

For anyone who is into mountain biking, there are trails designed for your skill level. Whether you're just a beginner looking to get comfortable with greens, or a professional looking to shred double blacks, there are runs for you. Below is a breakdown of tails by skill level.

Killington Bike Rentals

Need a bike to shred the trails, you don't have to look further than Killington. Also, if you have a bike but not sure if it's up to spec for mountain biking, I strongly suggest just renting at Killington. They have amazing bikes that are designed to comfortably ride these trails. The last thing you want is to run the mountain on a bike that wasn't designed for these trails.

Killington Bike Park provides a full-service rental shop located at the Snowshed Base Lodge, offering a fleet of over 150 bikes, which is the largest rental fleet in the east.. Youth-sized full-suspension bikes are also available.

Bike Lessons

If you're a novice (like myself), or just looking to uplevel your skills to advance to the next level of difficulty on the mountain, Killington offers a variety of lessons. In the picture above, my son and I took advantage of lessons and had a great experience from this.

🚵‍♂️ Private Mountain Bike Lessons

For personalized instruction, Killington provides private lessons suitable for individuals or small groups:

  • 1-Hour Lesson

  • Half-Day Lesson

  • Full-Day Lesson

These sessions are ideal for riders seeking focused, one-on-one coaching to improve specific skills or gain confidence on the trails. Killington Ski Resort

👥 Group Clinics

Killington also offers group clinics which are a great way to learn in a supportive group environment, covering fundamental techniques and trail strategies.

Mountain Bike Camps

Youth Bike Camp

If you're looking to sign up your children into bike camps, Killington offers packages from 3 or 5 day sessions, which last all day, 9am - 3:45pm.  These are designed for youth from ages 7-17.

Killington Mountain School Summer Session Bike Program

If you're looking to ratchet things up a bit, Killington Mountain School offers a full summer season for competive riders aged 11-14. This is just the summer program and the youth do not need to attend the full term KMS program.

FAQ

Can I bring my own mountain bike to Killington?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring your own bike. Just make sure it’s a full-suspension bike that’s rated for downhill or trail riding. The terrain can be rough, and riding with the wrong gear can be unsafe and less enjoyable.

Are there beginner-friendly trails at Killington?

Yes! Trails like "Easy Street" and the Snowshed area are designed specifically for beginners. These greens offer a gentle intro to mountain biking with smooth turns and low grades.

What protective gear is required or recommended?

A helmet is required — and if you're renting, it’s usually included. For downhill trails, a full-face helmet, gloves, and body armor (elbow and knee pads) are highly recommended. All gear is rentable on-site.

Is Killington good for kids who are new to mountain biking?

Definitely. Between beginner trails, youth-sized rentals, and youth clinics or camps, Killington is one of the best places in Vermont to introduce kids to mountain biking.

What happens if it rains?

Killington may close trails temporarily during heavy rain to protect the terrain and ensure rider safety. Light rain doesn’t always cancel the day, but it's best to check the call or check the Killington’s website before heading out.

How much do lift tickets cost for mountain biking?

Mountain Bike Prices vary by age and package, but typically range from $52–$68 for a day pass. Discounted multi-day passes and season passes are available. Always check Killington’s site for current rates and deals.
